Well, it’s been a year and some weeks since I joined Deviant Art and surely time flies when you are having fun.
In this year I have met a lot of great artists, became friends with a lot of talented folks _you all know who you are- and even interacted with some of my most respected and admired comic book artist that also happen to be very active here on DA. This is awesome!
Here I also found quite a few Dominican artists. People who, just like me, are struggling to make their work available to others, to find among you the significance that locally is lacking of any recognition or in most cases even respect. Because sometimes is not about talent, is about being in the right place at the right time, meeting the right people and knowing that the fire within your heart is not a mere whim but a career waiting to explode and to reach out people and brighten their lives.
I often said to my advertising peers “You only know you do a good job when people you haven't met start collecting your work” and yeah, advertising can get people talking but not exactly about YOU (unless you are the ‘star product’ of the ad) and all the things that come with being an artist –The Shows, the interviews, the Conventions, the signings, the charity work…everything! Only happens when your work reaches the point of meaning so much more than a trace or sketch. Your work became ART.
So, instead of complaining for having those things in their schedule, artist should look at themselves in the mirror and say “I’m making it! Today is gonna be the greatest day on a kid’s life because he/she is going to meet ME” and if that doesn’t pump your heart go and try to find your chassis number because you’re not human.
That said, I thank Deviant Art for allowing me to do so much in a year, for not letting me forget that no matter how many silly radio ads I write or pre-production meetings I attend to, deep in my heart I am and will always be an Artist. Thanks to all of you who have seen my page, commented on my work and choose my work as a Favorite. Hope to meet you all at a Convention someday, and if you still have not seen my face, I’ll be the guy in the mirror saying aloud “I’m making it!... “I’m making it!!”
